Requirements
What you need to run NeueCode.
One Ubuntu server with an NVIDIA GPU of 12 GB or more, 32 GB of RAM, 60 GB of free disk, and internet during the install. The installer checks the operating system, the GPU and the disk first, and stops with a plain reason if something is missing.
The server
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 or 26.04, 64-bit (x86_64) | Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 LTS, freshly installed |
| GPU | NVIDIA, 12 GB of memory | NVIDIA, 24 GB or more |
| Memory (RAM) | 32 GB | 64 GB |
| Disk | 60 GB free | 200 GB or more, for people's files and backups |
| Network | Internet during the install (about 25 GB to download) | A fixed address on your network and a name in your DNS |
| Access | An account that can use sudo | — |
What the GPU decides
The main model runs on the GPU. The installer picks the size that fits your card.
GPU memory
24 GB or more
27-billion-parameter model
Full quality, with up to 65,536 tokens of context. The recommended setup.
GPU memory
12 to 23 GB
8-billion-parameter model
Fits the card whole and handles everyday work well; harder tasks go better on 24 GB. Up to 40,960 tokens of context.
GPU memory
Under 12 GB
Not supported
The installer warns: the smallest model needs about 11 GB of GPU memory.
Every server also gets
- Vision model. Reads images and scanned documents.
- Embedding model. Finds things by meaning in memories and documents.
- Dictation model. Turns speech into text when voice input is on.
Tested in our lab on
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (12 GB)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (24 GB)
- NVIDIA RTX A5000 (24 GB, and two together for 48 GB)
People's computers
People use NeueCode from a web browser on any computer that reaches the server. The optional desktop app runs on Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux; the editor extensions run in VS Code and Visual Studio.
Download the appsAfter the install
Once installed, the server works without internet: everything runs on its own models, and in strict mode NeueCode sends nothing out. Only web search and cloud models need internet, and only if you allow them.
How it stays privateQuestions
- What is the minimum hardware to run NeueCode?
- One 64-bit Ubuntu server (22.04, 24.04 or 26.04) with an NVIDIA GPU of 12 GB, 32 GB of RAM and 60 GB of free disk. 24 GB of GPU memory and 64 GB of RAM are recommended.
- Does it need the internet?
- Only during the install, to download about 25 GB of packages and models. Afterwards the server works without internet, and in strict mode it sends nothing out.
- What do people need on their computers?
- A web browser that can reach the server. The desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux) and the VS Code and Visual Studio extensions are optional.
- Can it run without a GPU?
- No. The models run on an NVIDIA GPU with at least 12 GB of memory; the installer checks for one before it starts.
